We are again invited to work with "Reclaim our Vote," a grassroots, 501(c)(3) campaign that focuses on increasing voter turnout through postcards, texts, and phone banking in voter suppression states.
Andrea Miller will share why people of faith should care about voter suppression and how this movement is engaging voters of color. As the founding board member of the Center for Common Ground, executive director of People Demanding Action, and founding president of the National Women’s Political Caucus of Virginia, Andrea has expertise in voting rights, climate, and the Equal Rights Amendment. In 2008 she was the Democratic nominee for the Virginia 4th congressional district. This event is being co-sponsored by Spirit of Grace and EcoFaith Recovery. In a culture of urgency, reactivity, and pronouncement, the work of racial justice can feel inaccessible, overwhelming, and exhausting. While it will always be challenging and require mutual bravery, engaging in healing and repair with activated and triggered nervous systems might not take us far. Blessed Audre Lorde reminds us that “the master’s tool will never dismantle the master’s house… they may allow us temporarily to beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change.”
How might we rediscover the ancient tools of our contemplative lineages in order to dismantle the oppression we perpetuate and experience from within the heart?
Facilitated by Rev. Dr. Matta Ghaly. By donation only (no one is turned away for lack of funds). For more information or to register visit mattaghaly.com/tillingtheheart.
